He was born in Bern Switzerland ( March 2, 1704) and came to this
country in 1736.
He came with Hance and Hance junior on the ship the Princess Augustus.
He eventually had two wives and 23 children.
His first wife Anna Maria Werle was born Oct. 28, 1704
She died Sept 1748 in Codorus York Co. Pa.
She was from Alsace Lorraine which was Germany then.
They married in Feb 2, 1724 in Streinthal District of Alsace
Lorraine.
After her death he married Ana Margaretha Geiger in York, Pa.
There are records of Peter Binckele when he was a wagonner in the Revolutionary
War.
He also was an esteemed member of the Moravian church in North
Carolina.
There is a copy of his will and other records in the Moravian Archives
in Winston Salem.
Growing up in poverty he cut wood and herded cattle to make his living
before coming with other relative to this country. He heard in person the famous Count Zinzendorf and frequently
heard Brother Spangenberg preach. His first wife died in 1748 after bearing 14 children.
By 1772 he had married for the second time and moved his family to Wachoavia, three miles from
Bethania. When he died in 1793 he was the oldest member of his congregation much
noted for his preaching and visiting in the homes of brethern. When
he died at 89 years of age he already had 129 descendents. This has caused some difficulty in my locating just which one of his
23 children my mother and grandmother were descended from.
