Thought For The Day

Giving Thanks
By Joan Estelle High

There are many passages in the bible that relate to giving thanks.
Prayers before eating and prayer after eating to give thanks for the food.
Prayers of gratitude for God's Blessing.
Praise  for giving us Wisdom.
Psalms thanking God for His enduring love.
But in Thessalonians we are told we should remember to
 give thanks for everything.
Paul in his letter to the Thessalonians, brags on them
and states that they are examples though out the area for the way
they have became followers of the Lord.
He commends them for tuning away from idols.
Paul calls them "children of the light"
and tell them to continue to watch
else the day of the Lord catch them unawares
In chapter 5 these verses seem to stand out to me today.
Chapter 5
Verse 8

"But let us, who are of the day,
be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love,
and for a helmet, the hope of salvation."
Verse 14
"Now we extort you brethren,
warn them that are unruly, comfort the feeble minded,
support the weak,  be patient towards all men."
Verse 16-22
"Rejoice evermore, Pray without ceasing.
In everything give thanks,
for  this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.
concerning you. "
Quench not the spirit.
Despise not prophesying.
Prove all things,
Hold fast that which is good.
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
