21st, 2005
It was a lovely day in this East Texas Town.
The first day of summer and the longest day of the year, it
was a good time for the dedication of a memorial monument to
the Robert Albert High family of Crockett, Texas
Only a few people were on hand but we spoke a few words
and took some pictures of the attractive monument that had
been placed on the family plot. (Pictures

Good Morning everybody,
We wish to thank you for coming .
A special thanks goes to Bette Sarver
who has been our contact person in here in Crockett.
Most of the time when people gather at a cemetery it is a sad time
because somebody has died.
But not today, we are here because somebody lived.
We are here to celebrate the lives
of the
Robert A. High family of Crockett.
They were never rich or famous.
Although God fearing people they would not have been considered saints.,
But neither were they any more sinners than most of us standing here
today.
They lived and loved, played and worked, and they shared laughter and
tears
for over 50 years here in Crockett.
Now thank to the generosity of two of
their
grandsons, ( Carl High and Donald Slocum )
their last earthy resting place will no longer be an unmarked
piece of
ground.
I read something recently on the Internet. It was
words to
an old song,
I didn’t write the name of the song down but the words struck a
cord
and seem appropriate for the occasion.
“If I leave here tomorrow, would you still
remember
me.
For I must be traveling on now,
there are too many places I have not seen.”
Well those buried here have moved on,
their souls have left their mortal shell,
and the physical bodies have probably turned to dust....
But we are here today to say to Robert, Ella May,
Nellie,
Dell, Lacy,
William Cloyd, Earl, Roberta, Dorothy, Erwin,
Beatrice, Mary
Lee
“We will remember you”
We wish to thank Mr. David Galant ,
and Bettie
Sarver of the
Houston Historical Commission for coming.
You can not get a group together in
Texas
especially in a cemetery
and not have a closing prayer.
So if you all will give me a few more minutes of your time, I have a
couple more
thoughts
I would like to share. and a short prayer.
Please sign the guest book before you
leave
and if you have a business card please leave one with us.
I will be doing a story about Crockett for my web site and
hopefully,
Ed will have gotten a few good pictures that we might post on the web
site.
As we gather here today, let us
take time to
thank a generous God for the gift of memory. Although sometimes,
memories of our
love ones that have died ,
may make us sad and pull at the heart stings;
But we would be even sadder if the memories of those lives here on
Earth are
lost in time.
We humans are blessed that we can look back at the past,
learn the lessons that the past has to offer,
those lessons that can help us now in the
present
and give us hope for the future.
May God bless each and every person
gathered
here today.
and may He supply their needs abundantly.
May we all go forth today determined that our lives
will be a blessing to our families and to our communities.
And we go forth with the hope
that some where, some day, some body will remember us. Amen.
