Notes on Wiley T. High Jr.
I have some records on him. His Texas Confederate Pension lists Texas
as place of birth. But he is on the 1850 Georgia Census with his father Wiley T. High Senior and mother Mary
Elizabeth Duke. We find him on the Titus County , Texas 1860 Census Records with mother
and the Goolsby's.On the 1880 Houston Texas Census with wife Mary E almost his same age.
Children are William.T., Joseph H,. Francis M., Robert C and John H. When we pick him
up again on the 1900 Houston Co. Tx Census his wife is still Mary with a different initial and we pick up John
Henry who was a baby in 1880 Census along with Cisiro , Charles, and Fannie Salles so I have listed
all the children under Wiley T. High .Jr. Wiley Jr. pension application states that he served in Pratts Battery
of Artilery attached to Parson Texas Calvalry Brigade. Later he was with General Jno. S. Marmaduke of Missourri Calvary Company
that was formed at Jefferson Texas He was stationed at Desark Arkansas and later discharged at Marshall
,Texas. He enlisted in 1862 and discharged in 1965 * W. Pritchard ran across a note that indicated that Wiley Turner High
Jr. was a minister in the Church of Christ. It seem that his wife Mary Elizabeth's brother, Andrew Jackson Prichard
served with him in the war and was also a Preacher of the Church of Christ.
* On June 21, 2005 we took a trip to the old Shiloh Community about 12
miles
south of Crockett, Texas. We took pictures of the High tombstones in Bryrum
Cemetery. Most of the one that we could read were from the family of Wiley
Turner High Jr. Click on
Bryrum Cemetery, to see
photos.
