High Family Tree

  John High Family.

John T. High 1828-1862

 

John T. High   one of the sons of John High born 1786- 90 N.C. He was a brother of Wiley Turner High (1816 Ga.) His sister were Martha  High  Chapman Wise,  Sarah High Goolsby , Susan High Clark and Julia  High Cummings. all of Georgia. John T. High  is first found on 1850  Jasper County  Census with  wife Lucy Chapman High and baby son Thomas. They live next door to the family of his wife's Chapman family 

His sister Martha lives there  married to  Asa Chapman.
 He moves to Cass county Texas(1960 census) with wife, Lucy,  and sons , Thomas, William Abner,  James Henry , Baby John Wesley and daughter Francis  E. High.
In  May of 1962 he joins the 19th Texas Volunteer Infantry.  Company G  under Col. Waterhouse
He enlists at Jefferson Texas and is sent to Rondo Ark. He dies from  measles and is originally buried at the camp where he died on September 18, 1862. After the Civil War the people of Rondo re-bury 85 of the soldiers at the Rondo Cemetery in Arkansas Rondo  is located  near Texarkana Texas and Arkansas. (Pictures of Rondo Cemetery.)
After John dies his widow, Lucy Chapman High is destitute and William Wise and William Goolsby administered  his estate. They sold everything they could to  raise some money and pay off a doctor bill. . The families  came from Ga.  to Texas together by boat to Jefferson , Texas.
Lucy is buried at Harris Chapel in Cass County Texas, in the same row as Martha and Sarah. .
Sarah and Martha took in  Lucy 's children after Lucy died in 1866. Sarah Goolsby took in Francis and Pinkney.  Martha  Wise  had John W. and James Henry. William seems to have been living with James Goolsby  s/o Sarah. in Titus County
Children of John T. High and Lucy Chapman High
Were:
Thomas born 1849 in Ga. He was on the  1850 Jasper County Census and 1860 Cass County Census. *Jean Rush found a Thomas B. High the right age born in Ga. on the 1870 Hunt county census living with the Fowler family.
William Abner High born in 1851 Ga. He married Martha( Mattie ) Stickland (1849-1924)
She had 3 children prior to marriage. Alma,(1875) George,(1877) Marion.(1880)
William and Mattie had 5 children  Evaline Evie High (1882),  Ora  Lee High,1883) John Ira High (1886)and Milton Frances (Trav) (1888)
William Abner is on the 1860 Cass County Census, He is on the 1870 Titus County at Sarah's son James Goolsby. The 1880 Jack County Census s and the 1900 Cass County Census.
He died on December 14, 1932 in Tarrant County Texas of a heart attack and is buried at Iron Bluff Cem.  in Lone Star Texas.
There is  grandson of William Abner  living today 2003,  in Saginaw Texas.
James Henry High born 12-24-1854 in Ga. Died Oct 13, 1937 in Texas
He is on the 1860 Cass County Census age 6
He married Nancy Elizabeth Truitt on March 10, 1981
There children were, Lucy Ann ,(1881) Sarah Florrie (Florence)(1887) James Marcus,(1890) Fannie Endora, (1893) Ella Mae, (1895)William Albert,( 1896) and Ethel Elizabeth,(1899)
James Henry is on the 1900 census for Morris County. with his wife and above listed children.
He has a grandson still living today 2004 in Daingerfield Texas
John Wesley High was 8 months old on the 1860 Census.
So he was born in Ga.   about 1859 or 1860.
He married Iola Mae McDaniels on December 23, 1886
They had 4 or 5 children. One child was blind and may have died young.
Children of Iola and John Wesley were:
Ivy, (1887), Iola Clyde High Kennedy (1889) Pearl High (1894) John Curtis (1897)
John Wesley was sheriff of Morris County from 1890 to 1897.
He died in 1898 from a gun shot wound which was the result of hard feeling over a dime bet
in a game of dice.
Iola May is on the 1900 Cass County Census living next store to her mother Florence McDaniel.
4 children are listed with her as John Wesley has died.
By 1910 she has remarried and only has John Curtis at home. John Curtis High and his wife Steedie are buried at Springhill Cemetery outside of Naples.
*John Wesley High had a grandson , Windell "Smokey" Kennedy, who was born March 18 1928 in  Morris County  who died Oct 27, 2004 in  Mt. Pleasant,  Texas. He was the son of Iola Clyde High and Edward Kennedy. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Thenia Lea Alexander. Although he didn't leave any descendents  he was a part of a large family through his  Alexander step children. which included 8 grand children, and 10 great grandchildren. "Smokey" served in the army in Japan just after the end of the World War 2. He will be most remembered as a man who loved and trained horses. Despite the infirmities brought on  by old age and a body that had suffered a lot of broken bones over the years, he was able to maintain a cheerful countenance with a good sense of humor. He was a man, whose  large doze of  personal courage came packaged in a small and slightly build body. He showed amazing loyalty to his friends, some of which he had for 50 years. He was extremely proud of his grandfather John Wesley High. He still had the badge his grandfather had worn when his grandfather John Wesley High  was sheriff of Daingerfield in the late 1890's. He is shown wearing it in this picture which you can  link to by clicking on his name 
Francis (Fannie) Elizabeth High born about 1858 in Ga.

She is on the 1860 census age 2
She married Pinkney Trewitt from Va.
Thanks to Jean Rush I found  her on the 1880 Census with baby Beulah.
I found her on the 1910 Dallas County Census.
She is a widow and Has 3 sons  W. Henry age 28, Harvey age 23, Albert age 19.
Living with her is Pearl High d/o of her brother John Wesley High.
Pinkney High born about 1862.
He is not on the 1860 Census for Cass.
We find him on the 1870 census living with Francis at his Aunt Sarah Goolsby's house.
