I Don't Want to Be Immortal
By Joan Estelle High
©August 2004

I don't want to be immortal, to live forever could be a bore.
At the rate that I am now going, I need a 100 years or more.
Sometimes working for a living steals most your life away.
Next there is a house to keep and garden full of weeds.
plus my family to care for, with all their wants and needs.
So many things I want to do, and so little time to do it.
As I look back on my life, I feel I might have blew it.
Did I have a gift to give, that lay unwrapped upon a shelf ?
A talents left within me because there was no time for self.
Could I have made this world a brighter place to be?
Is there still a masterpiece or a book of poems in me.
Well I finally got the message, I guess I always knew it.
Life is just too short my friend, so just get out and do it.
