Modesty and Chastity

©1-10-20

Let us examine the word "modesty"
It has several meaning according to Webster’s Dictionary.

The first meaning pertains to attitude. Not being conceited or vain about you abilities.
Being careful not to break your arm while patting your self on the back.
The bible tells us in Romans that every man should not think
of himself more highly than he ought to,
but think soberly, according as God has given him the measure of faith.

The other refers to propriety in dress, speech or conduct.
In matters of dress it means a person who conforms to decent and modest attire
suitable to the time they live in and the place they are.
A swim suit may be considered modest apparel when worn on a beach.
Especially if it is a Nude beach where swim suits are optional.
But wearing a skimpy suit to sell hotdogs on the corner in a city, that is questionable.

A sheer night gown may be sexy in your bedroom
but  don't try to go shopping at Wal-Mart or you may get arrested.
Standards have changed in dressing over the years.
Gone are the days of requiring all women to wear
high necks, long sleeves and long skirts.
Today we don't  usually  find anything sexual about a well turn ankle.
Colors are not immoral or God would not have made so many beautiful flowers
and  dressing in black doesn’t make you look  godly.
In fact black can be very sexy on some people, depending on what they are wearing.
But some how the pendulum has swung a little too far.

A little cleavage peeking out of a neckline is now to the stage
where the bodice of the garment barely covers the chest at all.
Grown women go to town wearing shorts that
show the curve of their behinds hanging out.
Some women who can be rightly proud of their bodies,
find it necessary to parade around advertizing,
as is they are hoping to make a sale.
When did it become popular to dress like a prostitute?
Makes you wonder if they have a full length mirror in their homes.

Young men not wanting to be left behind ,
think it is cool to show a little of their behinds too.
It is a standard joke about repair men and their crack showing jeans
but now we have a whole generation of young men who don’t own a belt.

Young women grow up thinking the ultimate goal is to look sexy.
They are getting younger all the time.
Their mothers are doing their best to raise a whole generation of Bimbo’s.
They are not passing it on to their girls that sexy is over rated at best.
It won’t stand the test of time and it is easily spoiled when the results
are not what a young girl wants or needs.

Modesty and Chastity go together hand in hand.
St Paul, mentioned that women should adorn themselves
in modest apparel with  a natural  face  and sobriety
and not worry about braiding their hair, with gold and pearls or costly array.
I guess  braids were big in those days.
But  he thought that women  should  turn their attention and concern to doing good works.

That doesn’t mean you have to go around looking like a rag bag.
Some times a new hair do and a touch of make up can lift your spirits.
It also lifts the spirits of those that have to look at you.
It is possible to dress smartly with out looking trashy.

Here is a game you can play by your self.
Pretend you can look across the street
and you  can see your  self , walking down the pavement.
Take a good luck at what you are wearing or not wearing.
How would you describe yourself to somebody walking with you ?
Classy or Trashy.  Some body important or a shady character going now where.

That then once again this  is just my opinion....... thanks for stopping by.
