Smart Meters

Well I continue to try and use less electric.
We turned off the central heater. It is a very cold spring here and our house is averaging 55 degrees. Even dressing in 3 layers, it is cold in my house . A couple times I have gone out side and sat on the front steps with my cat and enjoyed the sunshine. We were already sleeping in sleeping bags so it is not too bad at night. We are connected to one of those so called "smart meters". What I read from the internet is that they are not smart and not secure. Apparently the old meter was an individual meter that had to be read by a person on site. The Electric Companies eliminated the meter readers which should have saved them a bundle. Then got permission to charge all the customers a fee to pay for the new meters . Which we customers will have on our bills for 11 years. A decrease in their labor costs was not passed on as a decrease in the prices to their customers. The new "Smart Meters" are connected to a computer. Which leaves it open to hackers. Seems it is possible to cut service off, steal electric power and run up a persons bill with some know how and a lap computer sitting in front of your house. Seems that millions of customers and the electric company could have a major problem with "smart meters". Now they admit there is a problem, but claim that this has not happen to any of their customers bills, They assure us that the new meters won't cost us but a few pennies more on our bills. Still people all over Texas are claiming their bills are twice what they use to be. They are doing testing to try and prove that there is no problems with the new meters. My question is in this age of cell phones and other wireless gadgets has any body ran any tests to see if the smart meters, can be picking up random radio waves that could send false data Do Electric Companies ever check their figures to see if power generated matches power charged for. I have a door bell that rings several times a day or night. It is picking up a signal from a passing car or airplane. But we never see anyone in the area. If it is possible to deliberately mess with these meters could it be possible that it could be done accidentally ? Back to "New Mafia In Texas " |
