Well the primary races are over. Last Tuesday was the Primary in Texas.
We had 5 major candidates, running for governor,
only three of which I have heard anything about.
Dallas Morning News had a nice print out issues and how each
candidate stands on each issues. Or in some cases how they don’t stand.
Republicans
Looks like Governor Rick Perry will be the Republican candidate
and Mr. Bill White will be the contender for the governors job.
I guess our handsome, personable Governor Rick Perry
who is running for his third term was too strong to up-seat.
He looks like a governor but sometimes acts more like a dictator.
That business of mandating potentially dangerous vaccines
for pre
adolescents girls
didn’t sit well with a lot of people in this state.
I
get the impression if you don’t give the right answers to questions
he
ask he won’t hesitate to fire or replace.
His motto seems to be" my way or the highway".
Some things he propose I
agree with , such as much of his stand on education.
But when I read
that Texas is listed 48 on Educational matters,
it would seem that there
are some improvements that could be made.
I don’t think illegal aliens
and their children should get reduce rates at colleges.
If you are
illegal you should be in the" out of state" category ,
even if you lived here and went to a Texas high school.
"Anchor Babies" is something that should be given
additional thought.
As for transportation, I agree that we should leave gas taxes alone
and
not use them for other projects.
But I don’t think we need more toll
roads
and private companies from all over the world owning our highways.
Then we had Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson
who is currently holding down a U.S. Senate seat.
Good thing she did not give up her day job as her bid for Perry's job
did not quite pan out.
She gave a very gracious congratulations and pledge support to Perry.
She wants her supports to continue to support the Republicans in their
bid
to regain some of their seats in Congress.
Debra Medina was a fresh face who was a brave lady to take a
stand with
two such well known opponents. She added a little hot pepper
to the mix.
Her appeal was mostly to people who are fed up with the current crop
of politicians that seem to be running amok.
I did not feel that this lady had the knowledge of financial matter
or the experience to run this big state with a huge budget
Apparently only 17% thought she was up to the job.
I stand by my original opinion, this nice lady should go back home
and run for president of her local P.T.A.
Then on the Democratic side
I had never heard of Mr. Shami and the problem may have been
that he
did not have the name recognition needed for a state wide office
Biggest thing I did not like about him was his idea to raise gas taxes
an tie future increase to highway construction costs.
Mr. Bill White. will be the man to run
against Mr. Perry.
His ads show him as a nice man with
family values,
who teaches Sunday school and has experience in big government.
He seems to have sound ideas on education and controlling the insurance
industry.
He does oppose private toll roads but would not rule them out
toll roads all together.
He support Roe Vs Wade
and promised not to mess with the abortion laws either way in Texas.
He is said to believe that all children in this state need
to be educated
regardless of their legal status. I can see his point, because not to have an education
would make a group of people
trapped into slave
labor fodder.
Still as I see it either we open the door and say, come one, come
all,
or we should keep some advantages as rewards for being born
here
or coming to here by legal ways and means
