I agree that
the way these people of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints sect were handled was wrong. I don't agree with
the sect's methods of keeping women and running young men away or
having a polygamist society. They may have had to have polygamy in
the early days because of shortages in men or women but not in
today's world. I don't like the forced marriages and kids having
kids, but then I don't think kids should be having kids, under any
circumstances.
I wonder how many of these large families are on social welfare
programs.
It is one thing to go overboard on your ideas but to have
the state or federal government pay for your irresponsibility, then
it is not right. I don't need to be reminded about caring for the
children. The problem begins with irresponsibility and should end
with neutering.
* I agree with Ted these men should not have large
families if they can not support the ones they have.
If you don't want the state in your busy don't have your hand out in the
first place. J.E.H.This idea goes to all races, places, or ideologies. You bring the
kids into the world, then take care of them or don't keep mass
producing because of perceived compassion or indifference for the
kids. It definitely is not the fault of our education system.
A judge, committee or legal entity has too much power to take
this many kids from their parents without any good evidence about
negative group dynamics. Instead they should be acting on
individuals. It does not take an in-depth investigation to say the
kids are being harmed by taking them away to foster homes rather
than leaving them with their mothers or family. Some of the sect's
members do not practice polygamy; but I wonder if their kids were
taken?
If these people are content with the sect's rules then why
interfere. The Amish shun people over 21 who do not want to live
their lifestyle, yet we don't take away their kids. What would the
judge say if they took his kids or grandkids because of his rulings
that might be construed as corruption or divisive to the public.
Obama was right when he said Pennsylvanians are bitter and fall
back on guns and the bible. He should have said that all across
America these things are going on as jobs are lost to foreign
countries or illegal immigrants and there are few tangible items to
grasp for individuals and families who are near desperation. These
items are the church and fellow parishioners for support and
comfort. For a belief in final personal protection, for yourself
and family, the idea of guns as your last resort to save what you
cherish becomes a big issue.
As this is America, people are supposed to be able to do things
I don't like as long as they are held responsible for any outcomes.
In the last several decades this idea has lost momentum as the
government tries to correct errors made by those who should have
known better, especially if they thought about the consequences.
It seems that whenever we want to drive home a point without
justification we fall back on the bible, laws, morals or the mention
of SEX. I could do a survey and it would show we as a group fail at
all of these. It's failure does not make us weaker unless we use
any one of them to justify our means of getting things done, MY
WAY.
This group has every right to their religion and the sect's ways. If
people don't like the sect's rules or treatment, then leave as
several families have done.
It is just sad that a country which proudly wears flag lapels,
flies flags on their homes or vehicles, go to church, and ask God to
bless America can so autocratically impose their will on others and
call us a Democracy.
We have seen so many high profile politicians, celebrities,
athletes, ministers, CEOs and neighbors not abiding by the laws,
morals, or biblical teachings get away with doing despicable things
to themselves and others but the American people still feel
obligated to support them through thick and thin.
If only schools and individuals could use, in every class or
situation, the 12 laws Boy Scouts are supposed to use, we could live
a better life with our family, neighbors and friends.
These are the laws Boy Scouts are supposed to use: How do YOU
measure up?????
