I was thinking about what a
marvelous book the Christian Bible is.
Is there any other book in the
world like unto it ?
It has been written, and then
re-written in many languages,
Often it has been passed down from families
generation after generations,
Debated, reviled, misquoted and
misunderstood more than any other book
in our world history of
the written word.
It has brought hope and comfort and inspiration
to so many people.
No other book has had the power to change lives,
some
times for the better, occasionally for the worse.
It is like a 7
layer salad with
a lot of hidden goodies. It has history, poetry, and
love stories.
It has tales of great heroes and dark evil villains
It has great truths that were relevant to a particular time and age
and other truths that are relevant for all ages.
It is the only
book I know that people can take a comment totally away
from it context
and make a whole sermon on the thought it produces.
I can read a
chapter in Isaiah like chapter 61.
"the spirit of the Lord God is
upon me, because the Lord hath appointed
me to preach the good tiding, unto
the meek, he hath sent me to bind up
the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty
to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord
and the day of vengeance of
our God,
to comfort all that mourn.
To appoint them that mourn
in Zion,
to give them beauty for
ashes,
Oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of
heaviness,
that they might be called trees of righteous,
the planting of
the Lord"
That he might be glorified"
