Understanding The Human Condition
My essay is titled " Understanding the Human Condition"
It is not the bird eye view of a scholar in some ivory tower of academics
It is written from the perspective of insights gained from personal observations over several decades.
In other words it is just the opinion of an observant old lady.
It is hoped you will over look any mistakes in grammar and other superficial errors in typing
and find any pearls of wisdom in the piece.  If there are any to be found.

"The children are the answer. raise the consciousness of the children
and they will raise the standard of the world"

Understanding The Human Condition

Early human beings gathered together into family groups and clans in order to survive. Clans merged together with other clans to have enough people to repel invaders and also to find mates outside of the immediate family line. Gradually over time the groups began to elect leaders and /or a spoke person to speak for the them. Some times strong individuals appointed themselves leaders. The individual groups then became extended families.

Some groups built walls around their settlements that would eventually grow into communities. with a common language, customs and oral history. Each individual had something to contribute to his or hers community. People then began to develop occupations. This enabled those who were skilled hunters to do the hunting for the group. Others began to produce goods needed for survival. Maybe the  fellow who wasn't a skilled hunter found he could make the best bows and arrows. So then people could do the the things they were best skilled at doing and find somebody would trade with them for things they needed to survive. To be prosperous meant to have skills necessary to provide shelter, water, food and clothing for their family needs. People in their group had many things in common, were often of the same family tree and they would share food and take care of their elderly and children. They learned to trust the people within their walls. If somebody behaved badly then they were exiled from the group. It was like a death sentence to be exile from the family. If some one needed help, the community was there to help. It truly was like Hilary Clinton's book, "It takes a village". Existence was dependent on co-operation and so rules of conduct within communities were established.

But when anybody who was different came from a far away place they were immediately under suspicion. It is not much different today. Because someone is a different color, or speaks a different language, has culture or customs that seem strange to what we know, we tend to look at them and judge them negatively. Today the world is getting smaller as travel gets faster and modern communication devices are helping to educate us about different cultures. People are being exposed to many different cultures, political and religious ideas. Ideas travel rapidly down the internet highway. This has not only been educational but it has helped us to find a common denominator that binds  us together as fellow pilgrims on our journey  through life here on Earth. We all suffer hunger, thirst, pain, love and grief at the lost of a child or a loved one.

Over time our villages and settlements although made up of many cells has become larger units. Now the unit might include whole countries. Today people move many times in their life time, sometimes half way around the  world. Often is in search of opportunities. other times it caused by situations not of the person choosing such as war or natural disasters. Mankind had been on the move since the beginning of time as we know it. Huge migrations have flowed form one continent and across land bridges. Genetics and the study of DNA reveals the connection many of us have from generations past. Always moving with the hope the grass will be greener or the hunting would be better or the gathering of food would be easier. All they needed was to climb one more mountain or find a way to cross the body of water which lay ahead.

Emigration, both legal and illegal, continues today mostly form third world countries. It seems to cause many problems when people move to a new country and don't try to integrate in to the new culture. As  times they are not allowed to by the local populations. They sometimes flee from their birth nation, then  they try to turn their new homes into copies of the ones they have fled. They refuse to learn the language and they build separate communities and then complain that they are not treated well by their host country. They sometimes think that if they are not handed things, that they have some right to practice civil disobedience and mayhem until they get some special treatment. Nobody is going to wave a magic wand and make all your dreams come true.. You have to work for things no matter where you live. It is no wonder that local people resent new comers. They have lived and worked and paid taxes all their lives and it makes them angry to see the newly arrived immigrants, reap the benefits. when the immigrants have not contributed much or have  contributed anything to the society, yet  the society is expected to feed, cloth, house and give the new immigrants  medical care.. So if you decide to move to another country make sure you have the resources to maintain your self until you find employment. No body likes somebody that shows up on their door steps with their hand out. John Kennedy once said 'Ask not what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country".

Most of us have customs and culture that hold dear memories for us. Things that remind us of our child hood, happy occasions with family and friends. Nobody should have to give these things up. It is a privilege granted if you are allowed to have your feasts and celebrations. But you do not have the right to move into a new place and tell people they have to change their way of life to accommodate you and claim some divine right to impose your beliefs on them. Not that you must ever fail to speak out against injustice and wrong doing. But we are talking here more about social customs and celebrations. Like in the United States today, there is an idea that some how all display of Christmas must be banded it from public view, least it offend some of our minority immigrants that believe another form of religion. Christmas has long been a part of this country.  Even though it has become very commercial we love Christmas. We don't force anybody to join in, but  we resent deeply the idea that these "Johnny Come Lately" should take away a celebration that means so much to so many people.  Christmas is part of what we are as a people.

So if you want to be part of the country you are living in, you should learn what is expected of you in matters of morals and behavior. Learn the local language is the first step in the right direction. In today's world most educated people know and understand at least 2 languages. The Old Testament code of conduct called the 10 commandments will work as a guide for most cultures. Thou shall not lie, steal, kill, covet or mess with some body's mate is good advice no matter where you move or what language you speak. These are values that you ingrain in your children while they are still young. Children are like 3 legged stools. The need care for and knowledge about their body. They need their little minds educated so they will grow up with a love of learning, which will continue all the days of their lives. Their souls need nourishment also. They need to have a spiritual connection to God and their fellow humans. Art and music are nourishment to their young souls. Without a proper balance of each leg , they will  not have a good foundation to build their life on.

There may come a day when race or nationality will no longer matter. Each race has been given special abilities and talents. We can only hope that the human gene pool will be able to retain the best from all the different races and recombine them to produce a special line of people who will lead us into a better future. Maybe we can look to a future where a lot disease no longer plague mankind. Color of one's skin will be prized like the color of a precious flower in God's garden and no more thought will be given it, then it is just part of the costume we are wearing this time. It there is anything to reincarnation, who knows what race  we may be if we ever make a future trip back down here. Time will come when we will realize although we are a part of a family, a neighborhood, a town or even a country we are all citizens of the planet Earth. This space ship we call Earth is moving slowly though space and every one of us has to do what we can to keep this Earth in pristine shape. We must learn to be good caretakers of this world. We can no longer waste our resources in War. Wars kill off our future. The very people that may have the answer to the problems that beg for solutions may be the ones that are being killed off today in somebody's insane war.  People deserve to be feed and have a decent place to live. A chance to live their lives with our fear of being blown up. Even as we are sometimes called " cells in the body of God" we are also  organisms of this planet. What effects one of us effects all of us. We are the many small parts of the whole. We will celebrate what makes us different as individuals here on Earth and what makes us one in the spiritual plane of existence.

Basically all men what the same thing. We want to live in peace with our loved ones and have enough to provide shelter, food and the necessities of life for our families. We don't want to have to work from sun to sun down just to survive. We want to see our kids educated and healthy as they start out in life. We want money for our old age and grow old knowing our families are provide for. We want to be treated with respect and not fear to sit out on our porch or under a tree safely. We want the right to communicate with our God what ever we think His name is. And when we die , we hope somebody , some where will remember us when we are gone. ...........................................................
