National Cathedral-Washington, D.C.

Just a few facts.

Designed to be a House of Prayer for all people,  the Cathedral
of Saint Peter and Saint Paul is known as the  Washington National Cathedral. It is the sixth largest in the world and the second largest in the USA. Although a protestant Episcopal Church it has been affiliated with the government since 1893 but does not get any funding. Made of grey Indiana limestone it has 200 stained glass windows that look out on 57 acres of land. Plans were started in 1907 but the church was not completed to
1990. Took 83 years of work. Only one American president is buried in the cathedral mausoleum  Woodrow Wilson and his 2nd wife Edith are buried  there. As is the famous Helen Keller and her teacher Anne Sullivan.  Also buried there is  Admiral George Dewey and a couple of the architects that worked on the  design of the building. This was where Martin Luther King preached is last sermon from a pulpit and in a funny twist of fate, Dar Radar from Star Wars is  mounted as a decoration on one of the external walls.
